Legal Day

NASP Second Annual Specialty Pharmacy Law Conference

Held in Conjunction with the 2017 NASP Annual Meeting & Educational Conference

The NASP Specialty Pharmacy Law Conference is held the day before the NASP Annual meeting and Expo begins. The NASP annual meeting draws attendees from specialty pharmacies, both independent and retail chain specialty pharmacies, integrated health care delivery systems, pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturers, healthcare payers, GPOs, wholesale drug distributors, patient advocacy organizations, healthcare technology, law firms, government agencies, boards of pharmacy and academia. This year the second annual law conference will be held on Monday, September 18th at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.

This unique, one-day conference is intended for general counsel and in-house counsel for national and regional specialty pharmacies, practicing attorneys in health care law, compliance officers or executives concerned with the legal and regulatory requirements and extraordinary complexities of operating a specialty pharmacy. This program was designed by Rebecca Shanahan, JD, CEO of Avella Specialty Pharmacy and NASP President and Abby Kaplan, JD General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, Avella Specialty Pharmacy. Last year\'s agenda included presentations on antitrust laws and enforcement, compliance, provider networks, employment law, legal and regulatory aspects of compounding, state pharmacy licensure and crisis management. The program offers CLE credit.

The amount of CLE credit is based on the individual state jurisdictions interpretation of what constitutes one hour of CLE.

CSP Prep Course

The final CSP examination in 2017 will be offered in October and applications will be due by September 15th, 2017.

The National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP) has teamed up with ProCE to bring you the Center for Specialty Pharmacy Education (CSPE), The official continuing education website for NASP. Most CSPE activities cover the clinical therapeutics of various disease states in which specialty pharmacy products and services are provided. However, CSPE also covers legal, regulatory and operational topics relevant to specialty pharmacy practice.

Specialty pharmacy is the fastest growing segment of pharmacy practice today and will continue for the foreseeable future. Specialty pharmacy impacts only a small percent of the population; however, the diseases and drug therapies are very complex and require a higher level of knowledge compared to more traditional diseases and drug therapies. The Certified Specialty Pharmacist Credential is designed to validate your professional expertise, elevate the status of the specialty pharmacy profession, differentiate yourself in a competitive job market, position yourself for handling limited or exclusively distributed drugs, position yourself to better serve payer requirements, and protect the public by improving their health outcomes and reducing medication errors.

The CSP Exam Preparatory Course will cover aspects of clinical, fulfillment, intake and outcomes that might be expected on the exam. Join expert faculty as key aspects of specialty pharmacy and the specialty pharmacist\'s role are discussed. Key topics include the fundamentals and considerations for the patient intake process, as well as fulfillment workflows, quality assurance and dispensing channels. Outcomes measures and standards are covered, and clinical modules review persistence and adherence, specialty drug classes, indications, interactions, and more.
